Miami's Corn Elder, D'Mauri Jones to play basketball, too

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

A pair of Hurricanes are looking to carry their football skills over to the hardcourt.

Cornerback Corn Elder and wide receiver D'Mauri Jones will join Miami's basketball team this season, hoops coach Jim Larranaga confirmed to Mike Organ of the Tennessean.

Elder, a 5-foot-10, 188-pound sophomore, played both sports at Ensworth high in Nashville, Tenn., leading the team to two consecutive Division II-AA championships.

Jones, a 6-foot-4, 196-pound sophomore, also played both sports at Leesburg High School in Leesburg, Fla. He averaged 15 points in his senior season.

"One of the keys to our success is game preparation. Corn Elder and D'Mauri Jones can really help us in that category," Larranaga said. "They are two terrific young men and great athletes. We greatly appreciate (Miami football coach) Al Golden and his staff for allowing them to join us at this time."

Elder made 34 tackles with a sack and two fumble recoveries while playing in 13 games (one start). Jones caught one pass for 13 yards in two games in 2014.
