Ole Miss AD: Kiffin to decide coaching future after Egg Bowl

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin will decide on his coaching future on Saturday, Nov. 29, the day after the Rebels play rival Mississippi State in the annual Egg Bowl.

Ole Miss officials have been seeking clarity from Kiffin on whether he wants to remain the Rebels' coach or pursue another opportunity elsewhere. The 50-year-old has generated interest from multiple suitors amid head coaching vacancies at Florida and LSU.

"Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Boyce," athletic director Keith Carter said in a statement Friday.

"While we discuss the next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important - our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion. Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl, and together, we want to ensure that our players and coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday's game. This team is on the cusp of an unprecedented season, and it's imperative they feel the support of the Ole Miss family in the week ahead.

"An announcement on Coach Kiffin's future is expected the Saturday following the game. "

Kiffin has guided Ole Miss to a 54-19 record through six seasons, including a 10-1 mark this year. The Rebels sit sixth in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, with only next week's rivalry game against Mississippi State remaining on the schedule. A win could clinch Ole Miss its first CFP berth in program history.

Kiffin refuted a report earlier this week that Ole Miss had given him a deadline to decide his coaching future before the Egg Bowl.

"That's absolutely not true," Kiffin said Tuesday during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."

"There's been no ultimatum, anything like that at all. I don't know where that came from, like a lot of stuff that comes out there. Like I said, we're having a blast. I love it here."
