Report: Michigan to name Underwood QB1
The Bryce Underwood era is set to begin in Ann Arbor.
Michigan is naming the five-star freshman as its starting quarterback ahead of the 2025 season, sources told Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
The Wolverines are reportedly expected to make an official announcement Monday. Underwood beat out Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene and Davis Warren for the job.
He'll be the fourth true freshman quarterback to start a Michigan season opener, and the first since Tate Forcier in 2009, according to David Cobb of CBS Sports.
Underwood - the No. 1 player in the 2025 class - originally pledged to join LSU, but the Michigan native flipped his commitment to the Wolverines in November, instantly becoming one of the biggest recruiting wins in school history.
The 6-foot-4, 208-pound passer will start for a Michigan team looking to bounce back after going 8-5 in 2024 in its first year under head coach Sherrone Moore.
The Wolverines, who won the national title during the 2023 season, kick off their 2025 campaign against New Mexico on Saturday.
