Report: Georgia's Smart signs extension to become top-paid HC
Georgia is giving Kirby Smart a two-year contract extension that'll make him the highest-paid head coach in college football, according to Seth Emerson of The Athletic.
The new deal signs the 48-year-old through December 2033, notes Emerson. It also reportedly includes a $1.75-million pay raise that'll increase Smart's salary to $13 million per year with bonuses up to $1.55 million. Clemson sideline boss Dabo Swinney ranks second among CFB head coaches with an $11.5-million annual salary in 2024.
Smart previously inked a 10-year, $112.5-million extension after winning the national championship in 2021.
The Bulldogs have been one of the nation's best teams under Smart, who owns a 94-16 record on the sideline. The three-time SEC Coach of the Year has helped Georgia win two national titles and two conference championships since taking over in 2016.
The Bulldogs also reportedly rewarded athletic director Josh Brooks with an extension, adding one year to his deal to keep him under contract through 2030. As part of the new agreement, Brooks will have an annual salary of $1.27 million that increases by $100,000 each year, according to Emerson.
