South Carolina landed a major victory on the recruiting trail Tuesday when five-star defensive end Dylan Stewart announced his commitment to the school.

The 6-foot-6, 245-pound Stewart chose the Gamecocks over offers from Georgia, Ohio State, and others, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett.

The Friendship Collegiate Academy product explained the familial atmosphere and level of competition factored into his decision.

"What led me to commit to them is the family vibe and they really care about you," Stewart said. "Two, it's the SEC. Three, I know I'm going to get developed because my coaches have done it at all levels and know what it takes."

"It's like a second home to me," he added.

The Washington, DC, native is considered the top in-state recruit and the No. 15 overall prospect on the ESPN 300 2024 rankings. Stewart is also considered the third-rated defensive end in his recruiting class.

Head coach Shane Beamer continues to bolster the Gamecocks' roster. Stewart becomes the eighth ESPN 300 pledge this cycle, joining blue-chip offensive tackles Kam Pringle and Josiah Thompson.
