Quinn Ewers is on track to be Texas' starting signal-caller next season, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed Saturday, according to 247 Sports' Taylor Estes.

"I think it's pretty clear to say that Quinn's our starting quarterback," Sarkisian said after Texas' Orange-White spring game.

Sarkisian's comments seemingly shut down the potential for a quarterback competition with freshman Archie Manning, who ranked fifth on the ESPN 300 for 2023 and is the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning.

Manning struggled in the spring game, completing only five passes on 13 attempts for 30 yards. The Longhorns' pass rush kept the quarterback under pressure for most of the contest.

Ewers, on the other hand, flourished, connecting on 16 of 23 throws for 195 yards and a touchdown.

"I thought Quinn was really efficient today," Sarkisian said, according to Dave Wilson of ESPN.

Ewers flashed his five-star potential last season, throwing for 2,177 yards with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. However, the 20-year-old said he feels he can give more to the team in 2023.

"I wasn't where I wanted to be last year," Ewers said, per Wilson. "I feel like I let most of the fans down, and I don't want to be in that same situation this year."
