Miami is expected to name Shannon Dawson its new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, sources told Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger.

Dawson, 45, has served as the offensive coordinator for Houston since 2020.

The Louisiana native would join head coach Mario Cristobal's staff with plenty of experience as a play-caller after stints with Southern Mississippi, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Stephen F. Austin.

The Cougars boasted one of the more prolific passing games in the AAC last season, racking up 314 passing yards per contest and 36.1 points per game.

Dawson reportedly arrives a month after the Hurricanes fired offensive coordinator Josh Gattis following one season. Miami recently hired Lance Guidry as the team's defensive coordinator after Kevin Steele accepted the same role with Alabama.

Miami is seeking improvement in Cristobal's second year at the helm. The program struggled to a 23.6 points-per-game average (97th in the country) in 2022. The Canes finished with a 5-7 record and did not qualify for a bowl game.
