Alabama adds to class with 5-star commits Russaw, Smith
Five-star teammates Jaquavious Russaw and James Smith have both signed with Alabama, the pair announced Wednesday.
Russaw and Smith played together at Carver High School in Montgomery, Alabama.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Russaw is considered the top-rated outside linebacker and No. 1 prospect in the state, according to the ESPN 300.
Meanwhile, Smith is rated as the No. 3 player in the state and the second-ranked defensive tackle in the country by ESPN.
Russaw noted Alabama's prestige and success as factors in his decision. The pass-rusher plans to begin his collegiate career as soon as possible.
"I'm an early enrollee," he said, according to 247Sports' Hank South. "I'm going there early. I can learn the plays and work and potentially play on the field next year."
The Crimson Tide continue to pile on talent to their top-ranked recruiting class on the opening day of the early signing period. Alabama touts over 20 pledges featured on the ESPN 300 list, including offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor and safety Caleb Downs.
