Sarkisian pleased with Texas' recruiting: It's 'been a great run'

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is ecstatic with his program's recruiting success, headlined by the commitment of top 2023 recruit Arch Manning.

"This has been a great run," Sarkisian said Monday to ESPN's Pete Thamel. "Hopefully, it's not over. I don't think it is. We may have a few more to go here this week. Hopefully, we can continue to capture some of the momentum that has been created."

Manning, who's the nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli, sent shockwaves through the recruiting community with his commitment to the Longhorns. Following his pledge, four-star wide receiver Jonah Wilson and four-star defensive back Derek Williams, among others, also joined Texas.

Though Sarkisian isn't allowed to specifically discuss Manning's verbal pledge yet due to NCAA rules, he signaled the importance of picking up a top quarterback by pointing to Quinn Ewers' decision to transfer to Texas last year.

"A lot (of) those kids knew who Quinn Ewers was," Sarkisian added. "It's always helpful when it's the quarterback that is the big fish. I think this (2023) class is very similar, it's just different timing."

In addition to Manning, the Longhorns' 2023 recruiting class also features eight four-star commits. Sarkisian identified the current class as a crucial one to re-establishing the program's dominance in college football.

"We are going to become a great program because we're going to sign a great class in 2023," Sarkisian explained. "That's what great programs do. They stack recruiting classes on top of one another."
