Nebraska's Frost gets 1-year show-cause penalty for rules violations

Scott Frost has received a one-year show-cause penalty for violating head coach responsibility rules, the NCAA announced Monday.

The Nebraska coach will also be suspended for five days during the championship segment of the 2022 season.

In an agreement released by the Division I committee on infractions, the Cornhuskers and Frost admitted that a former football special teams analyst who provided instruction to players during practices and film sessions also assisted with in-game tactical decisions. As a result, Nebraska exceeded the number of permissible coaches.

Frost violated NCAA rules for not sufficiently monitoring the analyst, who was a non-coaching staff member, or alerting compliance staff when the violations had occurred.

In addition to Frost's penalties, Nebraska's current probationary period will be extended by a year through April 2023. The school will also be fined $10,000.

Further, the Corhuskers' countable coaches will be reduced by one for two days of practice during the spring 2022 season. Additionally, all non-coaching staff will be removed from practice and competition for five days during the 2022 championship segment.

Trev Alberts, Nebraska's vice-chancellor and director of athletics, released a statement regarding the violations.

Nebraska posted a 3-9 record last year. Frost has a mark of 15-29 during his Cornhuskers tenure.
