Report: Holgorsen verbally agrees to extension at Houston
Houston has verbally agreed to a multi-year contract extension with head coach Dana Holgorsen, sources told The Athletic's Sam Khan Jr.
Holgorsen led the Cougars to a 12-2 record last season and a win in the Birmingham Bowl over Auburn. He has a 19-15 record since joining Houston in 2019 on a deal that runs through the 2023 season.
The 50-year-old was expected to earn $4.2 million next season with a $100,000 increase the following year under the previous agreement.
A clause in Holgorsen's contract allowed for a negotiation of terms in "good faith" if the school was invited to a Power 5 conference during his tenure. Houston accepted an invitation to join the Big 12 in 2021 and could participate as early as 2023, per Khan.
The Iowa native previously served as the coach of West Virginia, where he tallied a 61-41 mark over eight seasons.
