Western Kentucky's Zappe breaks FBS passing records in Boca Raton Bowl win
Western Kentucky quarterback Bailey Zappe broke the FBS single-season record for most passing yards and touchdowns in Saturday's 59-38 victory against Appalachian State in the Boca Raton Bowl.
Zappe set the new yardage record with a 43-yard pass to Jerreth Sterns just before halftime. He surpassed B.J. Symons, who threw for 5,833 yards in 2003 with Texas Tech.

The Western Kentucky quarterback then tossed his 61st passing touchdown of the season in the third quarter to break Joe Burrow's record of 60. Zappe's record-breaking score was his fifth of the game.

Zappe finished the game with six touchdowns and 422 passing yards, giving him 62 passing scores and 5,967 yards on the year.
The senior quarterback started his career with Houston Baptist before transferring to Western Kentucky in 2021. He entered the bowl game with 5,545 passing yards and 56 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.
