Washington named Fresno State's Kalen DeBoer its new head coach, the program announced Monday.

DeBoer has a 12-6 record in two seasons helming the Bulldogs. The 47-year-old previously worked under Tom Allen at Indiana as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He also served as an assistant with Eastern Michigan, Southern Illinois, and Fresno State in an earlier stint.

The South Dakota native played wide receiver at Sioux Falls, where he got his first gig as a college assistant.

The Huskies are replacing Jimmy Lake, who was fired before the end of the 2021 season. Lake served a one-game suspension for hitting Ruperake Fuavai in the facemask and shoving him. Lake was also accused of pushing another player in 2010 when he was a defensive coordinator.

Washington had named defensive coordinator Bob Gregory its interim coach.

The Huskies finished the year 4-8, capped off by a 40-13 loss to rival Washington State in the Apple Cup.
