Washington State elevates Dickert to permanent head coach on 5-year deal

Jake Dickert has agreed to a five-year deal to become Washington State's full-time coach, the school announced Saturday.

The announcement comes following an impressive end to the 2021 regular season for Washington State under Dickert. He took over following the dismissal of former head coach Nick Rolovich and led the Cougars to three wins in their last four games.

"When we made a coaching change midway through the season, we needed to find a special leader to guide this program going forward, and we have found that with Jake," said director of athletics Pat Chun.

"His ability to steady this program and keep it focused over the past six weeks has been very impressive. Jake has a championship mentality, which has been on display since late October, and we are fortunate to have him guiding Cougar Football for many years to come."

Dickert also led Washington State to the team's first Apple Cup victory since 2012, beating Washington 40-13.

The Cougars finished their regular season with a 7-5 record.
