Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford left his team's 23-20 loss Saturday to No. 3 Iowa in the second quarter due to an undisclosed injury and he didn't return.

Clifford, who took a big hit from Hawkeyes linebacker Jack Campbell in the first half, initially went to the medical tent before walking to the locker room.

The signal-caller returned to the sideline for the third quarter, but his right arm was wrapped and he wasn't wearing his jersey, according to Greg Pickel of Blue White Illustrated.

Sophomore passer Ta'Quan Roberson replaced Clifford with the No. 4 Nittany Lions up 17-10 in Iowa City, but Penn State wasn't able to maintain its lead. Roberson struggled against the Hawkeyes' solid defense, completing only seven of 21 pass attempts for 34 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Clifford threw for 146 yards against two interceptions on 15-of-25 passing before being sidelined. He also added 36 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Saturday's Big Ten clash marked the first time Penn State and Iowa faced each other with both schools ranked in the AP Poll's top 10.
