Miami will reinstate safety Avantae Williams after battery charges brought against him were dropped, Williams' attorney said Thursday, according to the Miami Herald's Susan Miller Degnan and David Ovalle.

Local prosecutors closed Williams' case last week after his former girlfriend declined to press charges. The woman stated that "she is not a victim and does not feel the defendant will harm her or her unborn child," according to the final memo on the case.

"I was informed that Miami will reinstate Avantae," attorney Michael Etienne said. "Compliments to coach Manny Diaz, assistant recruiting director Edwin Pata, the athletic director (Blake James), and the entire UM administration."

Williams, 20, was originally charged with three counts of aggravated battery on a pregnant victim, which is a felony. The Hurricanes dismissed Williams from the program in July following his arrest.

According to the initial police report, Williams got into an argument with the woman, who was 31 weeks pregnant at the time, and ordered her to leave their shared apartment. The report stated that later in the day, he grabbed her multiple times and threw her outside, where she hit her head on the ground. She called 911 and was taken to hospital, according to The Athletic's Manny Navarro. Paramedics said she had "multiple bruises to her arms," along with other minor injuries, according to Degnan and Ovalle.

The woman later told prosecutors the injuries came from moving into her apartment and were not a result of Williams battering her.

Williams entered the transfer portal following his dismissal and had been contacted by more than 15 schools, a source told the Herald. However, the former four-star prospect decided that he wanted to remain a Hurricane.
