Texas Tech names Tyler Shough starting QB
Tyler Shough will be Texas Tech's starting quarterback, the program announced Tuesday.
"As I've said for several months now, this is the most talented our quarterback room has been since we arrived here at Texas Tech," head coach Matt Wells said in a statement. "After evaluating the entire body of work, we feel as a staff that Tyler gives this team the best chance to win.
"He is well-respected by his teammates, a tireless worker, and has developed a strong understanding of what we want to do as an offense."
The junior transferred from Oregon earlier this year. He started seven games for the Ducks last season, leading them to a 5-2 record and a Pac-12 championship.
Shough has thrown for 1,703 yards and 16 touchdowns to six interceptions over 11 career games.
Texas Tech opens its season against Houston on Sept. 4.
