Texas A&M tight end Jalen Wydermyer is expected to miss spring practice due to a hand injury, head coach Jimbo Fisher said Thursday, according to ESPN's David Wilson.

Fisher said the injury was the result of a "freak" off-field accident. Wydermyer required surgery on a tendon.

"It's all fine," Fisher said. "It's got to get stretched out. He can't take any hits or anything on it."

Wydermyer led the Aggies with 46 receptions to go along with 506 receiving yards and six touchdowns last season. He was named a finalist for the Mackey Award, which is given to the best tight end in the nation each season.

Wide receiver Caleb Chapman is also expected to miss the spring session as he continues to rehab following a season-ending leg injury in 2020. He's expected to be fully healthy by the end of spring.

Texas A&M is set to start spring drills next week. Haynes King, Zach Calzada, and freshman Eli Stowers will compete for the starting quarterback job following the departure of Kellen Mond.
