Shaquille O'Neal has reached out to the family of slain Louisville signee Dexter Rentz to help during a difficult time.

O'Neal will pay for all of Rentz's funeral expenses, including a horse and carriage and a custom-made casket, according to ESPN's Andrea Adelson.

Rentz was killed Saturday in a shooting in Orlando, where the Hall-of-Famer currently lives. The 18-year-old signed with the Cardinals in December.

"He was on his way, he really was," O'Neal said. "I don't know what it feels like to lose a son, but I know what it feels like to lose someone.

"This one hurts my heart. It really does. I wish things like this would never go on. It's just so sad, and I want to be able to help his family. I wanted to take care of it."

Rentz was the only fatality among four victims.
