Florida State is close to filling its head coaching vacancy.

Memphis' Mike Norvell has emerged as the leading candidate to become the Seminoles' next head coach, sources told ESPN's Mark Schlabach and Adam Rittenberg.

An official announcement reportedly could come Sunday.

The ACC program fired Willie Taggart early in November after he accrued just nine wins in 21 games across nearly two years on the sidelines. Florida State has gone 2-1 under interim head coach Odell Haggins this season, which was enough to earn bowl eligibility after it missed the cut in 2018.

Norvell, 38, has transformed the Tigers since he was hired as head coach in 2016. Memphis posted a 37-15 cumulative record over the past four seasons, including an 11-1 campaign this year.

The offensive-minded bench boss could coach his last game as a Tiger on Saturday in the AAC championship game against Cincinnati.
