Texas 4-star freshman Bru McCoy has informed the team that he plans to enter the transfer portal, according to 247Sports' Greg Biggins.

McCoy, the No. 1-ranked athlete in the ESPN 300 for 2019, originally committed to USC but bolted for the Longhorns after Kliff Kingsbury agreed to become the Arizona Cardinals' head coach.

"This is purely a personal decision and is no reflection on the University of Texas," McCoy said in a statement. "It has been an honor and a privilege to be part of the UT community.

"I will do my best to earn back any trust and respect I've lost as a result of this process," he continued. "I will work hard to be the best teammate and person I can be as I prepare for the chance to compete again in the future."

The 27th-ranked overall prospect is expected to transfer back to the Trojans, according to Rivals' Anwar Richardson despite Texas' efforts to convince him to stay in Austin. The Santa Ana, Calif., native was reportedly experiencing "deep homesickness."

McCoy should remain at wide receiver at USC, but his playing status for 2019 appears up in the air. The Longhorns had been pursuing a waiver from the NCAA that would have allowed the freshman to play in their upcoming campaign, but two transfers before summer camp is a rarity for recruits.

McCoy would represent the Trojans' highest-ranked incoming prospect, with only fellow receiver Kyle Ford ranked inside the ESPN top 100.
