1-handed HS football player commits to Montana, hopes to meet Shaquem Griffin
Montana's newest recruit is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin.
Alex Hurlburt - a 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive end/outside linebacker for West Salem High School in Oregon - has had to overcome the obstacle of playing football with one hand.
Hurlburt entered last season unsure if he would earn a starting job, but went on to win the Greater Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Year after recording 71 tackles, 26 tackles for a loss, 15 quarterback hurries, and seven sacks, according to Andrew Nemec of The Oregonian.
He announced his commitment to Montana on Thursday and hopes he'll have the opportunity to meet Griffin.
"I didn't know he'd be a big sensational until his last game and his NFL combine," Hurlburt said of Griffin. "He was incredible. I never would've thought there was someone else like me that had an opportunity at the NFL level. I think he's amazing. I don't want guys like us to be a weird thing to see anymore in college sports. I've never gotten the chance to talk to him, but it would be really cool."
