A 24-17 loss to Notre Dame in Michigan's season opener apparently wasn't enough to jeopardize the future of head coach Jim Harbaugh.

"He's not on the hot seat. He's under contract for four more years," school president Dr. Mark Schlissel said to the Detroit Economic Club on Wednesday.

Harbaugh was hired by Michigan in December 2014. The former San Francisco 49ers head coach was given a seven-year contract worth $5 million per year, according to Brendan F. Quinn of mlive.com. But he's recently drawn the ire of some fans due to the football team's underwhelming performances under his supervision.

Michigan went just 8-5 last season after winning 10 games in each of the first two years of Harbaugh's tenure. The team hasn't finished higher than third in the Big Ten Conference's East Division over those three seasons.

The Wolverines will try to get in the win column when they host Western Michigan on Saturday.
