McNair family attorney calls for Maryland to fire Durkin

The legal representation for the family of former Maryland offensive lineman Jordan McNair wants the school to fire head coach DJ Durkin, ESPN's Heather Dinich reports.

McNair died on June 13, two weeks after collapsing at a team workout.

"No. 1, what he did. No. 2, what he didn't do, and No. 3, the impact on this football program," attorney Billy Murphy said in listing the reasons for Durkin's firing.

During the May 29 workout administered by Maryland's strength and conditioning staff, McNair reportedly exhibited signs of extreme exhaustion and suffered a seizure at 5 p.m.

"It's in the medical records that one of the coaching staff personnel saw him seize 45 minutes into the practice," Murphy said to Dinich.

"Had this coaching staff done even minimal heatstroke training, they would have seen immediately that that's what was going on. They would have iced him and called the ambulance immediately, but there was this unexplainable one-hour delay from the time that he had a seizure and the time the ambulance actually came."

As a result, the McNair family is leaning towards filing a civil lawsuit in federal court, Murphy said.

Durkin was placed on administrative leave Saturday while the school conducts a review of the coaching staff's practices.

The head of the team's strength and conditioning staff, Rick Court, was also reportedly put on paid leave, according to the AP.
