Report: Malzahn agrees to new contract with Auburn
It appears Gus Malzahn won't be going home to Arkansas and taking the Razorbacks job, as sources told Brandon Marcello of 247 Sports that the veteran coach is staying at Auburn, and will new sign a new contract.
Sources told ESPN's Chris Low that the deal will be a 7-year contract worth $49 million, keeping Malzahn with the Tigers for the foreseeable future. Malzahn's current contract with Auburn had him with the program through the 2020 season, bringing in $4.725 million per season.
Despite another highly successful season with the Tigers, the 52-year-old had been rumored to be the top candidate for the Arkansas job, a school that he played for from 1984-85. After making his name as a high school coach in that state, he served as offensive coordinator for the Razorbacks in 2006 before moving on to Tulsa.
Malzahn's career record at Auburn is 45-21 with a 25-15 mark in conference play, including an appearance in the 2013 National Championship.
