LSU-BYU likely to relocate from Houston amid hurricane

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

LSU and BYU will likely be forced to relocate their game this Saturday - which is slated to take place at NRG Stadium in Houston - due to Hurricane Harvey.

Tigers athletic director Joe Alleva acknowledged Sunday evening that a relocation of LSU's opener is almost certain, per Ross Dellenger of the Advocate. If moved, the contest would likely take place at the Superdome in New Orleans or at LSU's Tiger Stadium.

Though NRG Stadium could theoretically be in fine condition to host the affair, the area in which it resides is scheduled to be used by the city of Houston as an emergency operations center.

A final decision on the status of the game is expected to come Monday. Regardless of where it occurs, the contest is still likely to take place Saturday, as BYU doesn't allow its athletic programs to play on Sundays for religious reasons.

A relocation of the game would mark the third straight year in which LSU has had its football schedule altered by extreme weather circumstances.
