The first set of College Football Playoff rankings will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 31, according to a release. The official playoff teams will be revealed Dec. 3.
While the initial rankings can change multiple times leading up to the playoff tournament, last year's top two teams - Alabama and Clemson - ended up meeting for the national title.
The third-ranked team, Michigan, didn't end up making the final cut and No. 4 Texas A&M quickly fell out of the national title picture.
