Freshman tight end Reese Leitao was permitted to join Texas in late May despite being arrested for drug possession, but he'll still have to pay a price.
Longhorns head coach Tom Herman announced Tuesday at Big 12 Media Days that Leitao will serve a two-game suspension to open the season, according to Brian Davis of The Austin American-Statesman.
Texas athletic director Mike Perrin released a statement on May 30, saying that he believed Leitao to be "contrite, sincere and accountable for his actions," after meeting with him, therefore allowing him to still join the team.
Leitao was arrested on Feb. 28 and originally charged with felony drug possession before the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor after he entered a plea deal.
