Missouri to rent out dorm rooms for home games

Dak Dillon / US PRESSWIRE

Faced with declining enrollment that is leading to a budget crisis, Missouri has decided to rent out rooms in a residence hall for football games this season.

The school launched a website advertising the two-bedroom, four-single-bed suites earlier this week, charging $120 per night plus tax.

The declining enrollment at Missouri has caused a number of residence halls to sit empty, making this decision to generate further revenue from the dormant buildings an easy one. Like the students who live on campus, patrons to the dorm rooms will also have access to the cafeteria to purchase food.

While dorm rooms may not offer the swankiest of accommodations, the convenience of staying on campus during a weekend trip for a football game is certainly an enticing offer.

A quick search of local hotel rooms in Columbia for a football weekend sees a considerable markup from a regular Saturday night. For those looking to enjoy a Missouri football game on a budget, the dorm room plan could be the best way to go.
