Houston has reportedly contacted former LSU head coach Les Miles about its head coaching vacancy, while Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has become a candidate as well, sources told Brett McMurphy of ESPN.

"Les Miles has always recruited Texas (while head coach at LSU and Oklahoma State) and has friends in Houston," one source said. "It could be what Miles is looking for."

Houston board of regents chairman Tilman Fertitta acknowledged Wednesday that the school is interested in Miles.

"I think we have some interest in him, and he has interest in us," Fertitta told Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle. "I'm not saying he's No. 5 on the list or No. 1 on the list. He's just on the list."

Earlier in the season, Miles was linked to Purdue and its need for a head coach, but that's no longer a viable option.

After two seasons as Alabama's offensive coordinator, Kiffin has been rumored to be new LSU head coach Ed Orgeron's top choice as offensive coordinator for the Tigers.

Kiffin was previously head coach of USC from 2010-13 and of Tennessee in 2009.
