Zaire reportedly eyeing Pitt, Florida, Michigan State, Wisconsin as grad transfer
Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire was given his release Wednesday.
Originally Zaire told Jared Shanker of ESPN that he would not be able to transfer to any of the schools on the Irish's 2017 schedule, with the exception of North Carolina. That would have ruled out Temple, Georgia, Boston College, Michigan State, Miami of Ohio, USC, NC State, Wake Forest, Miami, Navy, and Stanford.
However, according to an update from Shanker, Notre Dame granted Zaire a full release, which would allow him to transfer to any program, including a potential 2017 opponent of the Fighting Irish.
A source told Shanker that Zaire is looking at Florida, Michigan State, Pitt, and Wisconsin. The Spartans would have been ruled out, though, based on the original alleged stipulation from Notre Dame.
Zaire suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2 of the 2015 season, and wasn't able to win the job back this year from DeShone Kizer.
The senior will be eligible immediately in 2017 because he's a graduate transfer.
