Mike Leach imagines road tripping with Chris Petersen
The Apple Cup rivalry game between Washington and Washington State is this weekend in Pullman, with the Pac-12 North division crown on the line.
Despite the added magnitude of the annual matchup, Cougars coach Mike Leach appeared very calm at his weekly press conference Monday, taking time to answer the very important question as to who would drive on a road trip with Huskies coach Chris Petersen.
"Chris would do all the driving, (he's) very responsible," Leach told reporters, as per Stefanie Loh of the Seattle Times. "I grew up with my parents telling me, 'Why can't you be more like a guy like Chris Petersen?' Would be a fun road trip."
When asked to elaborate on his decision to cede the driving responsibilities, Leach was more than happy to continue.
"One, I don't get car sick," Leach began. "Two, I would be able to read and look out the window. Chris strikes me as a guy who wants to stay occupied. If all of a sudden he got bored, I could entertain myself, I could look out the window, read, do Spanish on my phone and could turn the buttons on the radio dial. And plus, he strikes me as a guy who's really good with directions."
Leach has long been one of the more quotable coaches in the country, while Petersen has maintained a much lower profile, despite smashing success at both Boise State and Washington.
A road trip between the two of them could present some very entertaining television, but for now we will have to settle for a game with College Football Playoff implications on Friday afternoon.
