After five years at the helm of the 49ers, head coach Alan Major and Charlotte have agreed to mutually part ways.
"This was the best decision to make at this time for my health and for the program moving forward," said Major. "I want to thank Judy Rose and Chancellor Phil Dubois for this opportunity the past five years."
Major leaves the 49ers after achieving a 75-81 record over the last five years, and with a personal 67-70 coaching record.
Over the last year, Major has taken a two leaves of absence for medical issues.
"This is an extremely difficult situation," said Director of Athletics Judy Rose. "In talking with Alan, we decided this was both in his best interest and the best interest of our program."
