11:44 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Northern Iowa misses a 3-pointer, Louisville goes the other way in transition and Montrezl Harrell throws down an alley-oop while getting fouled. That's the dagger. Harrell makes his free throw and it's 61-50 for the Cardinals with 1:25 to play.

11:41 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Northern Iowa thought the officials missed an over-and-back call against Louisville and the Panthers' bench is irate. Rick Pitino calls a timeout with 2:04 remaining. Cardinals ahead 58-50.

11:36 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Louisville takes a 57-49 lead into a timeout with 2:36 remaining. A lot of ground for the Panthers to make up the rest of the way.

11:35 p.m. ET (Bottero) - A chance for a brilliant offensive play for Northern Iowa in transition but Louisville smothers a dunk attempt and it doesn't fall. Officials let them play on, Cardinals go the other way and Montrezl Harrell throws down an emphatic alley-oop dunk. Huge swing.

11:27 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Louisville's lead stays the same and Terry Rozier gets fouled entering the under-8 timeout. He'll shoot two on the other side.

11:25 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Only one spot remaining in the Sweet Sixteen as Louisville and Northern Iowa play the 48th of 48 games in four days. The winner will advance to play NC State. Cardinals ahead 53-45 in a TV timeout.

11:22 p.m. ET (Bottero) - West Virginia advances to play Kentucky. Good luck, Mountaineers.

11:21 p.m. ET (Bottero) - For the 16th time this season, West Virginia forced an opponent into 20 or more turnovers. Maryland turned the ball over 23 times in a game in which they made 21 field goals.

11:19 p.m. ET (Bottero) 5 West Virginia 69, 4 Maryland 59

11:16 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Maryland senior guard Dez Wells fouls out of his final collegiate game.

11:14 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Inside the last minute in Columbus. West Virginia ahead 65-57.

11:09 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Maryland's Jake Layman beats his man off the dribble and throws down a one-handed slam with a defender on his back. He'll go to the line with a chance at a three-point play.

Layman with a huge slam

11:06 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Seth Tuttle gets into the lane and draws a foul for Northern Iowa. Louisville leads 42-34 entering the under-16 timeout. Tuttle will shoot on the other side of the break.

11:02 p.m. ET (Bottero) - West Virginia takes a 59-51 lead into the under-4 timeout. Maryland has more turnovers (19) than made field goals (18).

10:59 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Evan Smotrycz knocks down a triple from the right elbow and that halts a stretch of over six minutes in which they failed to score a single field goal.

10:57 p.m. ET (Bottero) - The second half is underway in Seattle, with Louisville ahead 36-27.

10:56 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Maryland has officially ruled freshman guard Melo Trimble out for the remainder of the game with a head injury.

10:55 p.m. ET (Bottero) - West Virginia ahead 56-48 heading into a timeout with 5:27 to play. Maryland hasn't hit on a field goal in over six minutes.

10:54 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Looking less and less like Trimble will return for the Terps. His mother has joined him on the bench.

10:51 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Not looking good for Melo Trimble. He has his head in his hands on the bench and is still getting looked at by the team's training staff.

10:48 p.m. ET (Bottero) - West Virginia in front 55-46 entering the under-8 timeout and Maryland looks lost.

10:43 p.m. ET (Bottero) - West Virginia picks up its largest lead at 53-46 and Melo Trimble is down behind the play. He leapt to try and intercept a pass and appeared to land awkwardly on his right leg. He's coming out of the game.

10:40 p.m. ET (Bottero) - West Virginia moves five clear of Maryland in a game that's been tight throughout. Mountaineers lead 51-46 midway through the second half.

10:35 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Louisville leads Northern Iowa 36-27 at the half. Cardinals shot 52.0 percent from the field in the first half and 57.1 percent from beyond the arc.

10:32 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Dez Wells scores on back-to-back possessions for Maryland. The Terrapins need him to keep rolling.

10:27 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Northern Iowa's Seth Tuttle smacked Louisville's Montrezl Harrell hard in the face following through on a shot. Harrell's staying in the game but keeps grabbing at his nose.

10:24 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Maryland freshman Melo Trimble takes a vicious shoulder to the chops on a moving screen. No foul called. Looks for the moment like he'll stay in the game. TV timeout.

10:18 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Maryland scores out the shoot to start the second half in Columbus, and suddenly the Terrapins lead 36-35.

10:15 p.m. ET (Bottero) - A little more scoring in Seattle than one might expect. Louisville leads Northern Iowa 22-19. The teams have combined to shoot 45.5 percent from the field.

10:10 p.m. ET (Bottero) - A valiant effort by Oregon's Joe Young in his final collegiate game. Finishes with 30 points on 12-of-25 shooting.

10:07 p.m. ET (Bottero)1 Wisconsin 72 vs. 8 Oregon 65

10:04 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Wisconsin heading back to the line up 68-60 with 22.7 seconds remaining. Oregon gave the Badgers a good run, but Wisconsin is rock solid this year. They won't go down easy.

10:00 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Wisconsin leads Oregon 63-56 with 49 seconds remaining. Just a matter of time now before Bo Ryan puts the Badgers through to the Sweet Sixteen once again.

9:55 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Wisconsin leads Oregon 60-54 with 1:27 to play as the game goes to break. Just give Bo Ryan time and he always seems to figure out a way.

9:50 p.m. ET (Bottero) - They're underway in Seattle on the 4-5 matchup between Louisville and Northern Iowa.

9:46 p.m. ET (Bottero) - And just like that, Oregon goes down the court and knocks down a triple to tie the game. 52-52.

9:45 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Frank Kaminsky goes to the line and moves the Badgers three clear. Wisconsin leads Oregon 52-49 with six minutes to play.

9:40 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Oregon making plenty of noise. It's a one-point game entering the under-8 timeout. Wisconsin leads 48-47.

9:33 p.m. ET (Bottero) - An 0-for-3 start from the field for Dez Wells. He has four turnovers. Maryland needs him to get going.

9:28 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Wisconsin leads Oregon 43-37 at the under-12 timeout. Ducks just won't go away.

9:26 p.m. ET (Bottero) - The start time for the night's final game in Seattle has been pushed back eight minutes. The 4-5 matchup between Louisville and Northern Iowa will tip at 9:48 p.m. ET.

9:21 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Oregon doing all it can to take Frank Kaminsky away and that's slowed the Wisconsin offense considerably. He's 4-of-9 from the field for nine points five minutes into the second half.

9:16 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kyle Wiltjer lit up the Hawkeye, scoring 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting, knocking down four of six shots from beyond the arc. Those two misses came with the game already in hand.

9:14 p.m. ET (Bottero) - 2 Gonzaga 87, 7 Iowa 68

9:11 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Adam Woodbury fouls out for Iowa. He finishes with just two points.

9:07 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Doesn't look like points are going to be hard to come by in Columbus. West Virginia leads 9-5 three minutes in. Both teams playing fast.

9:02 p.m. ET (Bottero) - They're underway in Columbus on the 4-5 matchup between Maryland and West Virginia.

9:01 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kyle Wiltjer keeps his heels up and just stays inbounds to knock down a triple.

8:56 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kevin Pangos knocks down a triple to put the Bulldogs on a 9-0 run and up their lead to 20. It's 69-49 Gonzaga as Iowa calls a timeout.

8:51 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Gonzaga leads Iowa 62-49 at the under-8 timeout in Seattle.

8:50 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Wisconsin taking a 31-28 lead into the break but it's Oregon that will be happy with the way that half played out. Joe Young started to heat up heading into the break. He has 14 points.

8:49 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kyle Wiltjer misses from three. He had been 6-of-6 from the field on the day and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc prior to that.

8:48 p.m. ET (Bottero) - A loose-ball foul in Seattle and Gonzaga will shoot free throws the rest of the way with 9:15 to go.

8:44 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Joe Young starting to figure things out at the offensive end for Oregon. He's up to 10 points.

8:34 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Checking in elsewhere, Gonzaga's up 52-37 on Iowa early in the second half thanks to Kyle Wiltjer's 6-of-6 shooting and 15 points, while Frank Kaminsky has seven points to help build a 23-19 Wisconsin lead over Oregon.

No. 3 Oklahoma d. No. 11 Dayton, 72-66
8:30 p.m. ET (Murphy) -
Dayton sure does add some excitement to the tournament. That ends here, though, as Oklahoma has eliminated Dayton for a berth in the Sweet Sixteen by a 72-66 final.

Dayton, led by Scoochie Smith's 16-5-4, just ran out of gas, going without a field goal from 11:55 to 1:19 of the second half in what amounted to a home game. Oklahoma got 15-3-5 and a clutch block from Buddy Hield to lead the way, and they now sit atop a wide open East Region.

8:28 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's close enough to be interesting, anyway! Dayton has the lead down to 70-66 with 18 seconds to play, but they're out of timeouts.

8:26 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Being the best player in college basketball does not make you safe from vicious posters, as Dillon Brooks reminded Frank Kaminsky early on.

8:24 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Dayton pins Oklahoma in the corner but fouls in the double-bonus, and Jordan Woodard hits a pair to extend the Oklahoma lead to 69-61. It's pretty much over, but Dayton just made it 69-63 with 24.9 seconds left, so all's not lost yet.

8:16 p.m. ET (Murphy) - The game just turned, with Dayton's Darrell Davis picking a Sooner pocket for a fastbreak layup ... that Buddy Hield absolutely erased. It's now 63-58 Oklahoma with 51.9 seconds on the clock.

8:14 p.m. ET (Murphy) - That's not fair to the Flyers, but it's been over 10 minutes since they last hit from anywhere but the line. They're stuck four with 106 seconds left.

8:13 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Dayton hasn't made a field goal since Christian Laettner was at Duke.

8:09 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Nobody really cares to score anymore. Over the last 7:26, the Sooners are on a 9-0 run. That's called bleeding a team. It's 58-56 Oklahoma with a shade under three minutes remaining.

8:05 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Oregon-Wisconsin is underway and while I don't give the Ducks much of a chance in this one, they unquestionably win the jersey battle.

8:03 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Gonzaga was ridiculous in the first half. They're up 46-29 and they're shooting 62.1 percent overall and 7-of-10 from outside. Kyle Wiltjer leads the way with 13 points but Kevin Pangos' hair is once again the game's MVP.

8:01 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's an 8-0 run for Oklahoma now, and they've got the lead back at 57-56. There are less than five minutes to play, and Dayton looks a bit gassed.

7:58 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Oklahoma has the lead down to one with 6:23 remaining. Both teams have been lights out from long range and strong at the free throw line, so it could come down to which team quits coughing up the rock.

7:53 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Dayton's doing a nice job moving the ball around to eat clock, but they've turned the ball over nine times to 10 assists. They'll need to tighten that up and take fewer risks in the last 8:52 to hang on to this 56-51 lead over Oklahoma.

7:50 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Okay, one last Wichita State reaction, because how can we not?

7:44 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Dayton is looking to make it a second consecutive Cinderella run to the Sweet Sixteen. As an 11-seed last year, they went all the way to the Elite Eight. With a 52-47 lead and 10:51 to play, we ask you: Who are you to doubt El Dayton?

7:42 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's party time for Wichita State fans. 44 hours into March Madness coverage, we could use an energy drink - or extended Furious 7 trailer - as well.

7:37 p.m. ET (Murphy) - And we check back with OH hey there, other upset brewing. Dayton leads Oklahoma 46-40 with 13:36 to go. From one barn-burner to another we go.

7:35 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's not the Uthoff dunk, but Domantas Sabonis got a measure of revenge for Gonzaga with a big dunk of his own against Iowa. The Bulldogs lead 29-17 midway through the first half.

No. 7 Wichita State d. No. 2 Kansas, 78-65
7:32 p.m. ET (Murphy) - And now it's official. Shockers win! Tekele Cotton led the way with 19 points, Kansas played terribly sloppy ball, and the better team on Sunday makes it on. This one didn't disappoint.

7:30 p.m. ET (Murphy) - For the first time since 1993, Kansas was forced to stop ducking Wichita State and square up, head-to-head. For the first time since January 1987, the Shockers have beat the Jayhawks.

With a minute to play, Wichita State leads 78-62, effectively punching their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen as a 7-seed.

7:27 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Kelly Oubre Jr. joins Frank Mason III as a lineage-named player watching the end of this Wichita State upset from the bench. He's fouled out with nine points and five rebounds.

7:26 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Over in Washington, Jarrod Uthoff just did to Gonzaga what the entire basketball world has done to Seattle.

UTHOFF

7:24 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Frank Mason III has fouled out for Kansas, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds and five turnovers. He'll watch the last two minutes of this upset from the bench.

7:21 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Kansas held Wichita State on 69 points for more than two minutes, because that's funny to them. Less funny was their inability to close the gap appreciably, because the Shockers lead 71-59 with 2:25 to play.

7:16 p.m. ET (Murphy) - This is a quality tweet.

It's also pretty accurate, with the Shockers up 69-57 with 3:18 to play. Time for all that talent to make itself known.

7:13 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Wichita State has the lead back out to 12 at 69-57. With just 4:39 to play, Kansas needs to figure it out, like, now.

7;12 p.m. ET (Murphy) - We've got a third game underway, with Gonzaga up 5-2 early against Iowa.

7:10 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Kansas has gotten by for most of the season on its high-end talent. It's execution has been inconsistent and spotty. Both of those statements remain true Sunday, down 63-55 thanks to 13 turnovers and plenty of defensive lapses, while Perry Ellis, Frank Mason III and Devonte Graham have still been able to score.

7:05 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Can Kansas get hot from outside? They're 5-of-15 overall and 3-of-4 in the last stretch of play. They don't generally shoot a ton of them, but they've hit 38.3 percent on the season. They'll need those to fall to close this 61-51 gap with 6:45 left to go.

7:04 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Dayton enters the half down just two against Oklahoma at 34-32. Considering they were down 9-0 in a hurry, that has to feel good.

7:00 p.m. ET (Murphy) - And let's be honest, Kansas is still in the game, but they're on life support. It's 56-45 Wichita State with nine minutes to go, and the Jayhawks look rattled, coughing up the ball and taking some pretty terrible shots.

6:58 p.m. ET (Murphy) - A big reason Kansas is even in this game still is the great play of Cliff Alexander ... you would say, if you were a studio analyst paying no attention.

6:54 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Also real: The Dayton Flyers. They're on a 15-0 run, taking a 32-29 lead from Oklahoma as the game nears half. Scoochie Smith has 10 points because Schooooooooch.

6:51 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Tekele Cotton is the Tereal Tedeal. He's got 15 points, 10 in the second half, and the Shockers lead 51-38 with 12:15 to play.

6:50 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Because you're curious, yes, we also got boneless chicken wings. Whether boneless chicken wings are better than regular chicken wings is a debate more hotly-contested than UCLA's inclusion in the tournament, Duke-UNC or whether Kentucky could beat the Knicks. Where do you land on it? Stand for something or fall for anything, you have to choose a side.

6:46 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Pizza's here! Celebrate! We're also looking at a potential upset in Omaha with Wichita State up 41-32, even more cause for celebration. Dayton is hanging tight with Oklahoma, too, trailing 29-26 late in the first.

6:41 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Wichita State is bleeding Kansas with basic ball screens, with the Jayhawks losing VanFleek and Cotton plenty off of simple actions. It's 41-30 Wichita State!

6:37 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Kansas has been forced into using an early second-half timeout just ahead of a TV timeout thanks to an 8-4 Shockers run. Wichita State now leads by seven, because there's no Jayhawk answer for Tekele Cotton.

You know how Bill Self doesn't love his team falling in love with the three? Wichita State is 6-of-12 from outside and Kansas is 2-of-11.

6:36 p.m. ET (Murphy) - We've ordered pizza! When it arrives, this will become the pizza live blog until the pizza has been finished. Although I'm never really finished eating pizza.

6:34 p.m. ET (Murphy) - We're back underway in Omaha! This is going to be one Wess-hell of a half.

6:29 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Dayton was making a nice run thanks to some great efforts from Jordan "CSI: Sibert starring Lil' Bow Wow new on CBS" Sibert, but Oklahoma has been able to keep them at arm's length. It's 24-15 halfway through the first half.

6:25 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Reminder: Scoochie Smith didn't make Bottero's top-68 names of the tournament. Cause for banishment.

Speaking of which - Scooooooooooch has five of Dayton's seven points.

6:21 p.m. ET (Murphy) - More like the Oklahoma this-one's-gonna-be-over-Soon-ers. What I mean is, they've hit four threes already and lead 12-4 in just over five minutes.

6:16 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Oklahoma is pitching a shutout in Columbus. It's 9-0 Sooners over Dayton after 3:10, and Oklahoma is perfect from the floor. This seems sustainable.

6:14 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's halftime in Omaha, which means your boy is back on the live blog. It's 29-26 Wichita State, thanks in part to eight points from Fred VanFleek.

6:12 p.m. ET (Bottero) - They're underway in Columbus on a 3-11 matchup between Oklahoma and Dayton.

6:09 p.m. ET (Bottero) - VanVleet nearly extends the Shockers' lead off a steal but he was forced to get off a desperation shot that just stayed out. Wichita State leads 29-26.

6:07 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Fred VanVleet pulls up and knocks down a triple to give Wichita State the lead. A 13-3 run for the Shockers and they lead 29-26.

6:05 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Tekele Cotton with a little Superman dunk, plus the foul. Completes the three-point play from the line and ties the game.

6:03 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Wichita State playing some good defense, but it's shooting just 33.3 percent from the field. Shockers need to get that number up.

5:59 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Ron Baker starting to heat up from distance. Kansas ahead 24-23 heading into the under-4 timeout.

5:57 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Perry Ellis back on the Kansas bench. Good news for the Jayhawks.

5:54 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Wichita State's Evan Wessel knocks down a triple and Kansas turns the ball over on the ensuing possession. Kansas ahead 24-19 at the under-4 timeout.

5:51 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Ellis heading to the locker room. They seem to be having some difficulty stopping the bleeding. Better than five minutes left in the half.

5:48 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Perry Ellis in some distress on the court. Looks like he took an inadvertent elbow to the chops from Fred VanVleet while defending a drive. His nose is bleeding. Trainers taking a look at him.

5:43 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kansas ahead 17-14 at the under-8 timeout. Jayhawks will shoot two free throws on the other side of the break.

5:41 p.m. ET (Bottero) - The box score not telling the whole story for Fred VanVleet today. He has three turnovers - one was dropped by Ron Baker who wasn't expecting the pass, and on another he was bumped out of bounds by teammate Evan Wessel who lost his balance boxing out a Kansas player.

5:39 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kansas in front 17-12. The difference thus far: Frank Mason III. He has nine points on 3-of-4 shooting, knocking down both of his attempts from beyond the arc.

5:37 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kansas dealing with some foul trouble but Wichita State is not exploiting it. Settling for jumpers.

5:32 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kansas ahead 12-10 at the under-12 timeout. Ron Baker knocked down a three for the Shockers heading into the break.

5:30 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Perry Ellis looking good for Kansas early. Starts 2-of-3 from the field.

5:28 p.m. ET (Bottero) - A little bit of foul trouble for Kansas early on. The Jayhawks are up to five as a team under six minutes in.

5:23 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kansas out in front 8-5 at the under-16 timeout. Wichita State shooting 1-of-5 from the field.

5:21 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Kansas takes a 4-2 lead, then Fred VanVleet knocks down a triple for Wichita State. Perry Ellis answers right back from in the lane to make it 6-5 Jayhawks.

5:17 p.m. ET (Bottero) - The first points in the first Kansas-Wichita State meeting since 1993 come from Darius Carter, who knocks down a pair of free throws after he was fouled by Perry Ellis.

5:15 p.m. ET (Bottero) - They're underway in Omaha on the highly anticipated 2-7 matchup between Kansas and Wichita State.

5:10 p.m. ET (Bottero) - The matchup Bill Self wants no part of.

5:05 p.m. ET (Bottero) - In case you missed it earlier, Tom Izzo's pretty good this time of year. He's 13-1 in the Round of 32, and has led his team to the Final Four more times (6) than he's been knocked out in his first game of the tournament (5).

5:00 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Start of the Kansas-Wichita State game on pace to start at 5:15 p.m. ET.

4:55 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Bit of a break here before Wichita State and Kansas, the day's most hotly-anticipated game, tips off at 5:15. In the meantime, here is Bill Walton's dog.

No. 1 Duke d. No. 8 San Diego State, 68-49
4:52 p.m. ET (Murphy) -
Noted Aztecs fan Gino Bottero had a "computer issue" that's forcing him off the live blog momentarily. Me? I'm just pumped my dude Justise Winslow had another great game and that we get to see Jahlil Okafor tested against a pair of Utah 7-footers.

Winslow finished with a ridiculous 13-12-5-4-3 line, while Okafor scored 26 on 12-of-16 shooting. Winston Shepard led the way for SDSU with 13 points.

4:45 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Have to figure there will be more fireworks in the next game - the 2-7 matchup in Omaha between instate rivals Kansas and Wichita State.

4:40 p.m. ET (Bottero) - San Diego State scores heading into the under-4 timeout, but Duke had been on a 20-2 run prior to that. It's 64-41 for the Blue Devils with 3:34 to play.

4:38 p.m. ET (Bottero) - So much for San Diego State mounting any sort of comeback. The Aztecs haven't scored in over seven minutes and Duke's lead is up to 23 on a strong one-handed slam by Jahlil Okafor.

4:33 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Jahlil Okafor heading to the free throw line. Amazingly, Duke went the first 32 minutes of the game without a trip to the charity stripe. Even more amazing: Okafor knocked down both of his free throws.

4:29 p.m. ET (Bottero) - San Diego State showing some fight but Duke is just too good today. Blue Devils ahead 53-37 at the under-8 timeout.

4:24 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Winslow with a strong finish at the offensive end, then grabs the defensive board on the ensuing San Diego State possession. What a game he's having. Duke now on a 7-0 run to up its lead to 14.

4:20 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Justise Winslow has been a beast for the Blue Devils. He has 11 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double, adding four assists, two blocks, and a steal.

4:16 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Duke gets its lead back to 10 with a Quinn Cook triple to send the game into the under-12 timeout. Blue Devils lead 47-37.

4:14 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Nearing the seven-minute mark of the second half and Duke has seven points.

4:10 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Duke in front 42-31 at the under-16 timeout. San Diego State showing some signs of life.

4:07 p.m. ET (Bottero) - San Diego State's starting to play its game and the Duke lead is down to 10.

4:04 p.m. ET (Bottero) - It's unfair that Jahlil Okafor can put the ball on the floor as well as he does as a 7-footer.

4:02 p.m. ET (Bottero) - The second half is underway in Charlotte. Duke has a 13-point lead in a game that hasn't looked that close.

3:59 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Duke's Justise Winslow blocked the heck out of this shot.

3:55 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Pretty solid first half from the Blue Devils. ESPN already has Duke advancing in its official bracket online.

3:50 p.m. ET (Bottero) - San Diego State shot 31.3 percent from the field in the first half. Turned the ball over six times.

3:45 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Jahlil Okafor's first-half stat line: 18 points (9-12), 3 rebounds, assist, block.

3:40 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Duke takes a 37-24 lead into the break in a game that hasn't been as close as this score looks.

3:39 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Jahlil Okafor's been very patient in those double teams and he is absolutely killing the Aztecs. For the second times he dribbles out beyond the arc to shed the double-team, then drives by his man for two.

3:34 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Some good fight from the Aztecs under the basket leads to an and-1 opportunity. They're going to need more of that. J.J. O'Brien's getting plenty of opportunities down low but is shooting 2-of-8 from the field.`

3:32 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Duke up 35-17 at the under-8 timeout. San Diego State looking like it just doesn't belong.

3:28 p.m. ET (Bottero) - San Diego State hitting on only about a quarter of its shots. If the Aztecs can't stop the Blue Devils, they're going to need to start scoring.

3:23 p.m. ET (Bottero) - An emphatic dunk by Jahlil Okafor sends the game into the under-8 timeout with Duke ahead 24-11. San Diego State may need to start sending a third guy over when he gets the ball. Okafor's 6-of-8 right now.

Duke move the ball around on the fastbreak and Jahlil Okafor finishes with the nice dunk #SDSUvsDUKE

3:20 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Jahlil Okafor's got things all figured out. Pretty baskets on back-to-back possessions. He's 5-of-7 from the field and Duke's now doubling up on San Diego State, 22-11, nearing the eight-minute mark.

3:18 p.m. ET (Bottero) - San Diego State's doubling Jahlil Okafor every time he gets the ball on the block. He'll need to step up his game as a distributor, and it will be on his teammates to knock down their shots.

3:15 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Duke ahead 18-10 at the under-12 timeout. San Diego State getting some scoring from its bench, keeping this game respectable.

3:11 p.m. ET (Bottero) - A poor foul call on Grayson Allen and that's his second. He's playing limited minutes anyways so Coach Krzyzewski leaves him out there.

3:07 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Sloppy play from San Diego State on offense. Bad shots and unnecessary risks. The team's fourth turnover leads to an easy bucket on the runway for Duke and prompts an early timeout from Steve Fisher.

3:04 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Jahlil Okafor with a brilliant pass down low to fellow big Justise Winslow for the easy bucket. The Aztecs are going to be in trouble if he's doing things like that.

3:02 p.m. ET (Bottero) - 68.2 percent of brackets in the ESPN Tournament Challenge had Virginia advancing to the Sweet Sixteen. Only 692 of the 11.57 million entries (0.006 percent) picked the first nine Sweet Sixteen teams correctly.

3:00 p.m. ET (Bottero) - The first six points of the game belong to Duke. It's 6-0 Blue Devils at the under-16 timeout. San Diego is 0-for-6 from the field.

2:57 p.m. ET (Bottero) - Coach Fisher hoping for a better result this time around.

2:54 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Hey, we tipped a little early! Duke-San Diego State is underway.

2:39 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Duke and San Diego State may seem a bit of a mismatch, but there's some serious history here. The two head coaches met in the 1992 NCAA championship game, when Steve Fisher coached the Fab Five. You may remember that game.

2:33 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Quick follow-up on the Virginia postmortem: While Virginia was known best for their defense, they ranked top-10 in adjusted offense before Justin Anderson's injury. They fell off precipitously (23rd) during his eight-game absence and the three games since he returned. Whether it's momentum or an expression of his import to the team, that will look like the unofficial end to their contender status in retrospect.

2:30 p.m. ET (Murphy) - The start of the Duke-San Diego State game has been pushed back to 3 p.m. So go grab a coffee or a quick bite to eat or watch the trailer for Furious 7 a dozen times like I will be.

2:24 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Tom Izzo owns the Round of 32. He's now 13-1 lifetime in the round, making the Sweet Sixteen 13 times in his 20 seasons at the Michigan State helm. That is, in a word, incredible.

This has to be a tough one for Virginia to swallow, a second year in a row.

2:23 p.m. ET (Murphy) - So, that's the 1-seed and 2-seed down in the East Region. As good as Michigan State looked Sunday, the Louisville-Northern Iowa winner will likely be licking their chops.

No. 7 Michigan State d. No. 2 Virginia, 60-54
2:20 p.m. ET (Murphy) -
It's over, and it's tough not to feel bad for Virginia. They were great all year and owned an unbelievable defense, but the late-season injury to Justin Anderson seemed to kill their momentum - and his jump shot - and they didn't look like the same team in the ACC or NCAA tournaments.

The Cavaliers shot 29.8 percent overall and 2-of-17 from long range, numbers that won't hold up no matter how many free throws you take or how good your defense is. Darion Atkins (10 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks) led the way in the losing effort.

Travis Trice was huge for the Spartans again, hitting 4-of-8 from long range on the way to 23 points. Branden Dawson was huge, too, with 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Michigan State now awaits the Dayton-Oklahoma winner.

2:18 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's 59-52 for Michigan State with 25.1 seconds to go. This is the face of the East Region:

2:15 p.m. ET (Murphy) - The Spartans weren't great from the line early but they've been nails when it matters. That ice in the veins has helped them pull the lead back to eight at 57-49 with just 34.5 seconds left.

2:12 p.m. ET (Murphy) - And just like that, Virginia is right there after a Darion Atkins tip-in and London Perrantes 1-of-2 trip to the line. It's 54-49 Spartans with 93 seconds to play.

2:09 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Travis Trice has shown back up, and he just hit a massive triple for MSU. They're up 52-44 with 2:52 to go. Virginia was a 36.2-percent 3-point shooting team but the're 1-of-13 today. They'll need those to drop, and in a hurry.

2:06 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Coming out of the final TV timeout, Michigan State leads 49-42 with 3:23 to play. The Spartans are in the bonus with three timeouts, Virginia is in double-bonus with three timeouts and the possession arrow. Virginia can't score from the floor, so possession may not matter much. The double-bonus is huge.

2:01 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Twitter has turned on the referees in this one, as Michigan State's come up on the favorable end of a few close calls. It's 49-41 Spartans now with 4:21 left.

Virginia hasn't hit a field goal in nearly eight minutes, scoring exclusively at the line. They may want to hit a shot.

1:58 p.m. ET (Murphy) - The lead is down to four thanks to a pair of free throws from Anthony Gill, as Virginia's now in double-bonus. There's 5:15 to play and the Spartans were just granted a lucky timeout without possession.

1:53 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Quick reset: It's 45-38 Michigan State with 6:53 to play. The Spartans have four timeouts and are in the bonus, while Virginia has three, is in the bonus and has the possession arrow. Darion Atkins is the only player with four fouls.

1:51 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Like I said, all ball. (There was a bit of hip but this was mostly clean. Tough break.)

1:48 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Darion Atkins just erased a Gavin Schilling layup attempt but got whistled for a foul on the play. That was all ball. ALL ball. That's a tough break, as it's Atkins' fourth foul.

1:42 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Virginia's doing just enough on offense to hang around. They're down 38-32 and shooting 32.5 percent from the floor, but 11 offensive rebounds and only four turnovers help make the most of those otherwise-inefficient possessions.

A big part of their keeping it close has been Branden Dawson and Denzel Valentine sitting at the same time for MSU, leaving them thin on offensive options.

1:40 p.m. ET (Murphy) - You know what counts as part of defense? Rebounding. Virginia has surrendered six offensive boards and they've led to seven points for the Spartans.

1:36 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Michigan State is now 6-of-13 from the free-throw line, a mark that could come back to bite them later. They're up seven and Virginia is at the line themselves. This has been a terrific game and it's going to be one hell of a finish.

1:32 p.m. ET (Murphy) - He may not look happy, but Magic Johnson is probably pumped that his Spartans lead 34-25 with 15:39 to play. Virginia has the offensive tools for a comeback, but they'll need to find them in short order.

1:30 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Branden Dawson has been on and off the prospect radar in his four-year career. He's firmly back on it today, as is Virginia's Justin Anderson. This matchup has been a ton of fun.

1:29 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Anthony Gill got busted open for Virginia, but how that happened remains unclear. Maybe he, too, smashed his head on a stanchion? Worse yet, he got called for a foul on the play.

1;24 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Tom Izzo's locker room speeches must be the stuff of legend. The Spartans have come out hot again to extend their lead to 32-22.

1:21 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Justin Anderson just finished a ridiculous layup and smashed his head (intentionally) on the stanchion. It was weird, but we won't argue with a player getting fired up ... luckily there's no concussion testing protocol at play.

1:18 p.m. ET (Murphy) - And we're back!

If this feels a little familiar, by the way, Michigan State held Virginia to 35.1 percent shooting in last year's Sweet Sixteen, which the Spartans won 61-59.

1:11 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Clark Kellogg called Travis Trice "Trice Krispy Treats." Please don't do the same. Be more responsible than that.

12:56 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It was 15-4 Michigan State just 5:28 into the game. We enter the half at 23-18 Spartans, but don't let the low score get it twisted - this game has been incredibly entertaining. Virginia is shooting 26.7 percent, which is a pretty big issue.

Travis Trice had 13 of those opening 15 points but hasn't scored since, going 0-of-3 after a 5-of-5 start.

12:51 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Virginia has forced five turnovers now, forcing the Spartans to pay for pushing the pace. The game's first five or six minutes certainly appear to have been an aberration, as the Cavaliers' defense is dialed back in. It's 23-18 Michigan State with 1:20 in the half.

12:50 p.m. ET (Murphy) - You gotta make your free throws, everyone. Michigan State is 2-of-6 at the line and Virginia is 1-of-2. YGMYFT.

12:47 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Despite the mismatch it can cause elsewhere, Virginia has Justin Anderson on Travis Trice at times now. Anderson's a great defender and Trice has been held to zero points and one assist over the last 11:27.

12:46 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Michigan State has two offensive rebounds to seven for Virginia, but both of theirs have led to buckets.

12:45 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Virginia has settled in some here after that worrisome start. It's 21-15 Michigan State with a little over four minutes to go, and the game has slowed to a more Cavaliers-like pace.

12:38 p.m. ET (Murphy) - That perceived size edge Dawson has at the three right now? The Cavaliers forgot to box him out and he just flushed a put-back. It's 19-11 Spartans with seven minutes to play in the half.

Nine of Michigan State's 14 field goal attempts have come in the paint, where most opponents simply aren't allowed to go against Virginia. It's been a weird start.

12:35 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's hard to believe Branden Dawson is only 6-foot-6. When he plays the three, as he is right now, he looks enormous.

Then again, we're all tiny, Dawson included, next to Travis Trice. At 5-of-5 and 3-of-3 on threes, he's the biggest 170 pounds you'll ever see.

12:31 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's possible I undersold Darion Atkins' momentum-swinging block. This is just ridiculous.

kiop's post on Vine

12:28 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Virginia just scored for the first time in 5:55, and the Cavaliers are showing some life thanks to Darion Atkins. Remember, he said this would be a dick-swinging contest. A huge block that leads to a transition three, followed by a bucket of his own, is one way to swing.

12:27 p.m. ET (Murphy) - You might say Trice's game has got some teeth.

12:20 p.m. ET (Murphy) - It's a 10-0 run for Michigan State over the last three-plus minutes ... and it`s all been Travis Trice. Trice has 13 points in less than six minutes, almost all of them in transition against the country's No. 1 transition defense. It's 15-4 Michigan State. This is crazy.

12:18 p.m. ET (Murphy) - An early two has been changed to a Travis Trice Triple, giving Michigan State an early 8-4 lead.

12:14 p.m. ET (Murphy) - You know that consistent pre-Madness talk about how Michigan State always peaks in time for the tournament? As much as that may not seem realistic or sustainable, Tom Izzo's record suggests there's something to it.

12:12 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Is it too early to use the "Travis Trice, real name, no gimmicks" joke? We'll save it. He's off to a quick start, though.

12:09 p.m. ET (Murphy) - Let's do this!

11:11 a.m. ET (Murphy) - I take issue with the claim that Friday was "boring." There were some good games, some great individual performances and, best of all for our purposes today, it allowed for the best teams to get through. That should make for a terrific slate of games today.

Check back around noon for the proper kick-off to the live blog.

Overnight (Bottero) - What made Friday a boring day in NCAA tournament is what will make Sunday's batch of games exciting.

The heavyweights survived Friday's schedule and that means heavyweights like Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, and Wisconsin will all hit the court on Sunday.

Here's what to watch out for.
