Hall of Fame head coach Larry Brown agreed to become an assistant at Memphis under Penny Hardaway, sources told Stadium's Shams Charania and Jeff Goodman.
The reported news comes shortly after Hardaway backed out of the Orlando Magic's head coaching search.
Brown coached Hardaway in 2005-06 when the two were members of the New York Knicks.
Brown is the only bench boss in history to win an NCAA championship and NBA title. He last coached in 2018 for Auxilium Torino in the first division of Italian basketball.
The 80-year-old holds a 266-99 career mark at the collegiate level with stops at UCLA, Kansas, and SMU.
Brown won the Naismith Coach of the Year award and guided the Jayhawks to a national championship during the 1987-88 campaign.
