Overtime Elite league adds highly touted Thompson twins

Overtime Elite

The Overtime Elite league is signing five-star recruits and twins Amen and Ausar Thompson, the organization announced Tuesday.

Their contracts will run for two years, meaning they'll bypass the remainder of high school as well as college, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Amen and Ausar attended Pine Crest High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and they're ranked No. 22 and No. 23 overall, respectively, among all recruits in the class of 2022 by ESPN. The two 6-foot-6 guards will play in the league's debut season when it launches in September in Atlanta.

"Amen and Ausar are the types of players that every coach wants, not only in terms of their ability on the court, but because of their commitment to get better," Overtime Elite head coach and director of player development Kevin Ollie said in a statement. "The Thompsons understand what it takes to reach their potential as whole people, and we're going to provide them the tools they need to fall in love with the process of being a pro every day for a lifetime."

The Overtime Elite league guarantees all players a minimum $100,000 annual salary. It also permits players to profit from the usage of their name, image, and likeness. The NCAA, long considered the traditional route for high school recruits, is still discussing how to implement its own NIL legislation.

The Thompsons are the second set of twins to sign professional contracts with Overtime Elite. Matt and Ryan Bewley, five-star prospects in the 2023 class, announced Friday that they would also join the startup.
