Memphis signed head coach Penny Hardaway to a five-year, $12.25-million contract extension that runs through the 2025-26 season, the school announced Monday.

"Coaching at Memphis is my dream job," Hardaway said in a statement. "I'm so thankful for the board of trustees, president (David) Rudd, (director of athletics) Laird Veatch, and all of our loyal donors and fans for their continued support.

"Memphis basketball is in the national spotlight, and we are continuing to get better and better every day. The future is bright for the Tigers."

The four-time NBA All-Star returned to his alma mater two years ago and landed the top-ranked 2019 recruiting class. James Wiseman and Precious Achiuwa were two of the prized prospects and went on to become first-round picks in this year's draft.

Hardaway has guided the Tigers to a 48-27 overall mark, including back-to-back 20-win campaigns. The school finished first in opponent field-goal percentage (36.1%) and third in defensive rating during the 2019-20 season.

Memphis currently has a 5-3 record.
