Duke's Vernon Carey declares for 2020 NBA Draft
Duke big man Vernon Carey Jr. is declaring for the 2020 NBA Draft, he confirmed on Friday.
Carey intends to sign with Jeff Wechsler of 24/7 Sports Management for his representation ahead of the draft, his father told CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.
"I am so proud to have had the opportunity to coach such a tremendous young man. He came every day looking to get better and I know the best is yet to come for him," Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski said of Carey through a statement.
A projected first-round pick, Carey excelled at Duke with strong averages of 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. His production helped him earn the Wayman Tisdale Award, which is given to college basketball's top freshman annually.
The 19-year-old is set to become the latest one-and-done prospect under Krzyzewski, following in the footsteps of last year's top overall selection Zion Williamson.
Duke finished the season with a 25-6 record, including a 15-5 mark in conference play.
