Beilein believes Michigan will honor Fab 5 in future
Michigan's Fab Five squad of the early 1990s remains a basketball and cultural benchmark, even though the team came up short in two national championship games. Despite that rich history, all five players have spent the ensuing years estranged from the university, with their two Final Four appearances vacated after an NCAA scandal.
However, current Michigan coach John Beilein expects closure one day and thinks the school will officially honor the Fab Five.
"We love the Fab Five, and we continue to reach out to the Fab Five and that team," Beilein said Sunday, via ESPN's Myron Medcalf. "When you have the NCAA violations in there, that's a time that it takes some time to heal. But I'm looking forward to the times when we get everybody in that group together."
One member of the group, Jalen Rose, has been lobbying Michigan to recognize himself, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson for several years. However, Rose and the latter three remain split from Webber, who didn't participate in ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary, "The Fab Five."

Webber's involvement with former booster Ed Martin was a central part of the investigation into - and sanctions against - the program. Beilein seemed to reference Webber's refusal to make peace with the university.
"If invitations are sent and they're not accepted, then that's OK," he said. "We just keep doing it. But one day - was it the Supremes: 'One day, we'll be together' - we'll get it all together at one time."
Beilein leads Michigan against Villanova in Monday's national championship game. The Wolverines haven't won a title since 1989.
