Rick Barry's son transferring from Charleston to Florida
Mike White added a prolific scorer to the Florida roster Monday, as College of Charleston guard Canyon Barry is joining the Gators for the 2016 season as a graduate transfer.
"I have been contacted by numerous coaches and some of the top teams in the country," Barry said in a statement. "Ultimately, however, after much prayerful consideration, I have made my decision to attend the University of Florida next season and play for Coach Mike White as a Florida Gator."
The son of NBA legend Rick Barry, Canyon is an elite scorer in his own right, averaging 19.7 points per game in his junior season. Like his father, the 84.5 percent free throw shooter also takes his foul shots with the underhand method.
Barry will bring some much needed offensive pop to a Gators team losing top scorer Dorian Finney-Smith to graduation. As per NCAA regulations, Barry will be available immediately as a graduate transfer.
