LAS VEGAS - UNLV has again approved a multimillion-dollar contract for a new men's basketball coach after being jilted by the last hire.
The UNLV board of regents voted 12-1 on Friday to approve a five-year, $3.75 million deal for Marvin Menzies.
The former UNLV assistant has spent the last nine seasons as head coach at New Mexico State. Menzies was one of the final candidates to replace Dave Rice, who was fired in January.
But he wasn't the school's first choice.
Menzies got the job offer last week after the sudden exit of Chris Beard. Beard backed out of a nearly $5.8 million contract with UNLV to jump to Texas Tech.
