Blazers' Leonard suffered sprained ankle vs. Jazz
Portland Trail Blazers power forward Meyers Leonard got just a quarter of basketball in Wednesday night.
Leonard sprained his right ankle late in the first frame against the Utah Jazz, and did not return. With just under a minute to play in the quarter, Leonard landed on Jazz forward Trevor Booker's foot after making a jumper and hobbled off the court a possession later.
The 23-year-old, fourth-year big man - who opted to bet on himself and play out the season without an extension from the Blazers - struggled through the first four games of the season, averaging 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 28.1 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from 3-point range. He had two points and two blocks before leaving Wednesday's game.
The Blazers, who went on to beat the Jazz 108-92, play the second night of a back-to-back at home against the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday. Leonard's status for that game is not yet known.
