LeBron James on Derrick Rose's 'I Can't Breathe' shirt: 'I'm looking for one'
Derrick Rose caught a lot of people's attention on Saturday night when he wore a shirt that read "I can't breathe" during pregame shootaround before his Chicago Bulls took on the Golden State Warriors.
The shirt quotes the last words of Eric Garner, who died in July after being put in an illegal chokehold by New York City policeman Daniel Pantaleo. A grand jury's recent decision not to indict Pantaleo has sparked a wave of protests across the United States centered on the lack of accountability, unnecessary use of force, and pervasive racial biases of American police officers.
LeBron James has been increasingly outspoken on contentious, racially charged issues, like the deaths of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown and the subsequent acquittals of their killers. James came out in support of Rose's statement on Sunday, hinting to reporters that he could wear a similar shirt when he takes the court in Brooklyn on Monday.
"I thought it was great," James said of Rose's shirt. "I'm looking for one."
