Lakers' Henry to get 2nd opinion on knee, then travel to Germany for treatment

Continuing a frustrating trend that's emerged over the past several months, the status of Lakers guard Xavier Henry's health remains unclear.

Henry, who missed large chunks of time last season to a right knee injury for which his return timeline was repeatedly pushed back, underwent offseason surgery and was expected to be ready in time for training camp this year.

Following the surgery, when Henry didn't progress as expected, his timeline was cast into doubt again. He was initially expected to be limited in training camp. Now it appears he won't play in training camp at all. According to Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears, he's decided to travel to New York to seek out a second opinion, before travelling to Germany for the Regenokine platelet-rich plasma treatment that Kobe Bryant brought to the NBA mainstream when he received it back in 2011.

Henry reportedly plans to return to Los Angeles on Oct. 24, at which time an update on the condition of his knee is expected.

In his first season with the Lakers last year, the 23-year-old averaged 10 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1 steal in 21.1 minutes per game.
