The Dallas Mavericks are finalizing a one-year deal to bring back 29-year-old center Bernard James, reports Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas. Per MacMahon's source, the deal will be for the veteran’s minimum, and will be fully guaranteed.

James was drafted 33rd overall out of Florida State in 2012. He began his collegiate career at Tallahassee Community College, after serving for six years as a security forces specialist in the U.S. Air Force.

The 6-foot-10 pivot appeared in just 30 games last season, averaging 4.9 minutes and 0.9 points per game. Over his two years with the Mavs, he's averaged 7.9 minutes and 2.1 points, while excelling as a shot-blocker (averaging 2.7 per 36 minutes).

He'll likely act as a fourth big man off the bench, backing up Tyson Chandler, Brandan Wright and Greg Smith. His will be the 15th guaranteed contract on the Mavs' ledger, the regular-season limit.
