Grizzlies' Smart ruled out 3-5 weeks with sprained foot
The Memphis Grizzlies announced guard Marcus Smart will miss three-to-five weeks after sustaining a left foot sprain in Tuesday's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
His injury compounds an already difficult start to the season for Memphis, which sits last in the Western Conference at 2-9 and has already been mathematically eliminated from the NBA's In-Season Tournament.
The Grizzlies have played without several key players to begin the year. Star guard Ja Morant continues to serve his 25-game suspension, while center Steven Adams has been ruled out for the campaign after undergoing knee surgery. Memphis is also without Brandon Clarke indefinitely after he tore his Achilles in March, and multiple others are listed out for Saturday's encounter with the San Antonio Spurs.
Smart played just over eight minutes against the Lakers before picking up the injury late in the first quarter. The 29-year-old leaped in an attempt to block a pass by Austin Reaves but came down awkwardly on the Lakers guard's shoe and appeared to roll his foot. He needed assistance while heading to the locker room.
