Report: Hawks nearing deal with Rockets for Washington, Garuba
The Houston Rockets are nearing a deal to trade former first-round picks TyTy Washington and Usman Garuba, along with future draft compensation, to the Atlanta Hawks, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The Rockets are also sending out the Minnesota Timberwolves' second-rounder in 2025, their own second-rounder in 2028, and $1.1 million in cash to Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Lauren Williams.
In return, Houston will receive the draft rights to Alpha Kaba and nearly $5 million in additional salary-cap space. Kaba has never played in the NBA after being the 2017 draft's 60th and final pick.
The Rockets picked Garuba 23rd overall in 2021 out of Spain. He played 99 games across two seasons in Houston, averaging 2.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest.
Washington was the No. 29 pick in last year's draft after a strong freshman campaign at Kentucky. He averaged 4.7 points per game on 36.3% shooting as a rookie.
