Report: Cavs in serious talks with Lakers to acquire Rondo
The Cleveland Cavaliers are in serious trade talks to acquire Rajon Rondo from the Los Angeles Lakers, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports.
A deal between the two teams is expected to be agreed upon as soon as Friday, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Cleveland is suddenly in need of point guard depth after losing Ricky Rubio to a season-ending torn ACL injury. Starter Darius Garland is also currently sidelined after entering the NBA's health and safety protocols, while scoring guard Collin Sexton is out for the campaign following surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
Rondo has made 18 appearances coming off the bench for the Lakers this season. The veteran floor general is averaging 3.1 points and 3.7 assists in 16.1 minutes per game.
The Cavaliers have been one of the league's most surprising teams this season, posting a 20-14 record and sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.
