Ginobili among newly eligible Hall of Fame candidates
San Antonio Spurs icon Manu Ginobili is among a new group of players, coaches, and referees eligible for the Basketball Hall of Fame's 2022 class, the organization announced Tuesday.
Ginobili retired in 2018 at age 40 after accumulating four championships, two All-Star appearances, and a Sixth Man of the Year Award during a 16-year career spent entirely with San Antonio.
Joining Ginobili as first-time nominees of the North American and women's committees are referees Joey Crawford and John Clougherty, coaches David Hixon and Gary Blair, and players Tom Chambers and Lindsay Whalen.
The group joins a lengthy list of previously eligible candidates in consideration for a spot in the Hall of Fame's 2022 cohort.
The full list of nominated individuals will be unveiled during the NCAA Final Four in early April 2022, while the enshrinement ceremony will take place Sept. 9-10.
