Edwards: Being No. 1 pick would be a 'dream come true'

Georgia standout Anthony Edwards will likely be one of the first players off the board during Wednesday's NBA draft, and he'd be delighted if the Minnesota Timberwolves made him the No. 1 overall selection.

"Being the top pick would be exceptionally cool," Edwards told The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears. "Who doesn't want to be the No. 1 pick? That'd be cooler than anything … It would be a dream come true to be No. 1. But if that's not a team that wants me, or if I'm not wanted there, then wherever I'm wanted, I'm happy with that.

"I don't really care where I get drafted to. If you want to draft me and you are ready to take a chance on me, then I'm ready to give you my all."

In addition to Minnesota, Edwards has worked out for the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets. However, he offers a more natural fit alongside T-Wolves stars Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell as opposed to LaMelo Ball or James Wiseman.

Edwards has been in touch with Allen Iverson and Dwyane Wade throughout the draft process and looks forward to leaving his mark on the NBA during his rookie campaign.

"They told me to just go in there and make a name for yourself," Edwards said. "That's the main thing they told me. The mentality that I'm going in with is that I know everybody in the league and they don't know me. But after my first year, I want them to know who I am. So, that's my main goal."

Edwards averaged 19.2 points, 5.2 boards, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 steals as he earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors last season. His 610 total points ranked second in the conference, though he shot only 40.2% from the field - including a 29.4% clip from deep.

The 19-year-old has the length and foot speed to guard multiple positions at the next level but wasn't consistently engaged on the defensive end during his lone collegiate season.
